Subject: RE: KVM Incremental Backups & Live Storage Migration
Si,
Thank you for the info. Forgive me, but I am still a bit new to the github/open source development world. So please allow me to ask for some clarifications:
- Has the PR for KVM Live Storage Migration been implemented into CloudStack or is that something that is in development?
A Pull Request has been issued, but it hasn't been merged yet. Typically a PR requires 2 reviews (Looks Good To Me - LGTMs) and a successful integration test. It often takes individuals interested in a particular feature to get things moving, so if you'd like it, feel free to review and provide comments and testing of the feature.
- The 4.10 release does have Incremental backup capabilities for KVM?
I believe it's using differentials from the base QCOW2 image that was snapped.
Thanks for the help!
Regards,
j

Hi Jeromy,
Take a look at this PR regarding KVM live storage migration: https://github.com/apache/cloudstack/pull/1709
In terms of live snapshots, KVM live snaps (with memory) got merged fairly recently into the 4.10 future release. It backs up incremental snapshots to primary storage. Disk only snaps have been supported for quite a long time.

Subject: KVM Incremental Backups & Live Storage Migration
Hello All,
Does anyone out there have a solution for doing incremental snapshots or backups of KVM (QCOW2) VM images? Also, does anyone know of any movement for doing Live Storage Migration for KVM VMs? In VMware you can "Storage vMotion" a VM's disks, but I have not seen anything to do the same with KVM in CloudStack.
Any advice is appreciated.
